Ningbo-Zhoushan Port ranks No.1 in world

China’s Ningbo-Zhoushan Port ranks No.1 in world in cargo volume for 17th consecutive year

Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang Province said on Monday that it handled cargo throughput of 1.4 billion tons and more than 43 million standard containers in 2025, milestones that position the port to extend its global lead in total cargo volume for a 17th consecutive year and cement its status as the world's third‑largest container port.

Despite a challenging international climate marked by slower global trade growth and geopolitical volatility, the port recorded a leap in comprehensive operational capacity in 2025.

The bustling scene at the port signals broader momentum across China's port sector and reflects the resilience and vitality of the Chinese economy, displaying the "hard-core strength" of Chinese trade, according to industry experts.

According to a statement sent to the Global Times on Monday, the port's container throughput topped 43 million units for the first time, while cargo throughput hit 1.4 billion tons, reflecting broad gains in terminal capacity, openness and service efficiency.
